Franco Amoroso Barolo 2016

Categories , ,

You know my rule by now. If you want to find good value, you have to get off the beaten track. But rules are meant to be broken and today we find value right in the heart of Barolo.

Our Barolos are always blue chip – some of the best wines made anywhere in the world. Whether it was our 99pt Elvio Cogno offer, our Ellio Grasso single-vineyard offerings or our recent offer of Massolino Barolo Serralunga just before it found its way into Wine Spectator’s Top 10 wines of the Year.

But these dazzling wines also command Saturday night prices (as they should) and they really benefit from a double digit slumber in your cellar. But if you want something you can drink now and get a taste of all the intensity that true Barolo has to offer at as close to a Tuesday night price as Barolo can get, check out today’s 2016 Franco Amoroso Barolo.

93 Points, James Suckling
This has aromas of rose petals, dried cherries and dark chocolate. It’s full-bodied, yet elegant and polished with firm yet sleek tannins. Rustic on the finish. Give this a few years. Drink from 2023.

93 Points, James Suckling

By now you know that the 2016 Barolo vintage was one for the record books. So it wasn’t surprising that tiny Franco Amoroso produced the best Barolo in their history. Typically dense aromas cherry and chocolate intertwine with a touch of the floral. The wine is dense, but sleek, and best yet, it’s ready to drink now – just give 30 minutes or so to open up.
