Florent Cosme is the youngest son who didn’t inherit the family vineyard. That went to his older brother Mathieu. But instead of choosing a different career path, he used it as fuel become one of the best young winemakers in the Loire Valley.
After finishing oenology school, Florent took a position with famed Vouvray producer Vincent Careme as a key vineyard manager. But during nights and weekends, he quietly acquired some beautiful, old vine parcels along the Premiere Côte of Vouvray—the steepest and rockiest section, home to the village’s best vines. Working his 4 hectares organically and eventually biodynamically, he made his first vintage in 2011 while still working for Careme.
