Calx comes from the ancient Latin word for limestone—the unique soil found in Puglia’s Altopiano delle Murge plateau at nearly 1,000 feet elevation. The same limestone that builds the traditional trulli dwellings gives this Primitivo incredible freshness with notes of zingy red berries and dried figs.

This is one of those samples where I tasted the wine, was told the price, tasted the wine again, and then immediately knew something was wrong. This is everything you want in a big red sipper—super juicy, silky, and delicious at just 12.5% alcohol—way too good for the price we have. Pro tip: this is one of those wines that really pops if you stick it in the fridge for 10-15 minutes before you open it. A chillable, lovable red.
