Favia Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon 2021

99 Points, Jeb Dunnuck – 99 Points, James Suckling – 98 Points, Vinous

This 2021 Oakville Cabernet comes from Favia’s blocks at Oakville Ranch, high above the eastern edge of the Valley. These organically farmed, red, rocky, iron-rich soils have been producing some of the most compelling and highly scored wines in the area for years. These red hillsides of Oakville are sacred, which is why Robert Parker, Jr. famously described the Oakville AVA as “the tenderloin of Napa Valley.” You can’t find a better place in the world to grow powerful, age-worthy Cabernet.

Unsurprisingly, this cellar-worthy stunner comes with enormous praise to the tune of double 99 points from Jeb Dunnuck and James Suckling, and 98 more from Antonio Galloni and his Vinous Media. Jeb Dunnuck did not mince words when he declared the 2021 Cab “may be the finest wine I’ve tasted from this estate.” When you consider the winery’s 20+-year history of making some of the highest-scoring wines in the world, this is an emphatic statement.

“The 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Oakville may be the finest wine I’ve tasted from this estate, although the 2016 might have something to say about that. Ripe blackcurrants, fresh blue fruits, huge minerality, full-bodied richness, a dense, concentrated mid-palate, and incredibly pure notes of chocolate, loamy earth, tobacco, and lead pencil all define this sensational Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon. The tannin quality as well as the overall balance are just about off the charts. This warrants 4 -5 years in the cellar and will have 2-3 decades of overall longevity.”

98 Points, Vinous
From a north-facing site at elevation, the 2019 Cerro Sur is a bold, savory wine loaded with energy. This Cabernet Frac-based wine is bursting with tension. Floral, spice and mocha accents lend striking aromatic top notes. I am so impressed with the wine’s elegance and total sense of finesse. This is an especially savory wine with strong cool-climate aromas and flavors that are so captivating.

Andy Erickson and Annie Favia have accounted for dozens of 100-point wines. But this isn’t one of those offers where they tell you about the other 100-point wines and then pivot to a different wine. This one saw double 100-point scores as well. But I guess that’s not surprising since together they combine for some of the best wines ever made at Bryant Family, Corison, Dalla Valle, Kongsgaard, Leviathan, Ovid and Screaming Eagle.

Thanks to our record-breaking sell-out of the 2019 Cerro Sur, Favia has granted us an exclusive opportunity. This time it’s not their 100-point Cabernet Franc we’re snatching up, but their record-breaking Cabernet Sauvignon. They’ve just sent us the last five 6-packs of their 2021 Oakville Cab Sauv available anywhere, and this one is nothing short of spectacular.
