This is one of the very best domestic Chardonnays from the 2023 vintage, and it’s not a surprise it comes from Far Niente. Their Chardonnay always offers outstanding aging potential, but this year, somehow it seems like one of the best bottlings to date. The Tasting Panel certainly thought so when they gave it a huge 97-point score and called it “one of the most deluxe Chardonnays our team has had the pleasure of tasting.” That’s about as emphatic as it gets!
While undeniably delicious now, cellaring this wine will unveil further complexities and nuanced layers of flavor. This is what premium Napa Valley Chardonnay should be. Expect this Chard to evolve into a symphony of dried apricot, honeyed notes, and lemon meringue with a creamy, mid-palate that steals the show until the equally memorable and lingering finish. With each sip, the palate is enveloped in luxuriously creamy textures, balanced by a vibrant streak of citrus and a delicate minerality.
People are going to love this. And say what you will about more modern winemaking styles, but they hit on multiple cylinders at the same time.
