Gran Coronas represents a monumental turning point in innovation for Familia Torres. It’s when Miguel A. Torres went against the centuries long regional norms and planted Cabernet Sauvignon in Penedès in the 1960s at a time when most plantings were indigenous white varieties. Miguel’s outrageous quality Cabernet Sauvignon has led to Gran Coronas becoming a benchmark wine for the region. By blending Cabernet Sauvignon and Tempranillo, followed by prolonged oak aging, he puts together one of the family’s finest efforts each vintage.
If you’re looking for some of the best, affordable fall wines, let me introduce you to this little treat courtesy of the Torres Family form the 2019 vintage. It’s a juicy and yet silky Cabernet Sauvignon that also features a hint of Tempranillo. It’s just about as inviting as a wine gets. This is truly an unrivaled Spanish value. Black jammy fruits perfectly laced together with firm, chewy tannins, this wine has so much balance and poise and offers a slightly sweet finish capped off with well-integrated oak and a dash of spice courtesy of the Tempranillo.

This dark-garnet-colored wine has aromas of blackberry and a touch of smoke. It offers a nice equilibrium between velvety tannins and acidity, with flavors of black cherry, cassis, violet and dark chocolate. A burst of orange zest marks the lengthy finish.
