Fabre Montmayou Gran Reserva Mendoza 2018

Categories , ,

When Hervé Fabre first emigrated from Bordeaux to Mendoza in the late ‘80s, he was surprised to find that nearly every other investor in Mendoza’s wine renaissance was buying undeveloped land and planting new vineyards. They were ignoring the old vineyards of head-trained Malbec and Cabernet Sauvignon that had been established a hundred years earlier by earlier French immigrants. Hervé quietly bought them up, and today, these ancient vineyards surround his beautiful winery in Vistalba – Lujan de Cuyo, near the town of Mendoza.

It’s the old vines that are the secret to the lush, round character of Hervé’s wines; these vines give powerful fruit but remain fresh on the palate, a hallmark of great wines. The Gran Reserva is his top malbec, pulled only from the oldest parcels. Only ancient vines, up to 100 years old can render the unique combo of power and finesse that the ’18 Gran Rsva brings in spades.

The Gran Riserva Malbec is a big boy that can dance and will be the perfect foil to any grilled hunk of meat you decide to cook this fall.

Our good friend Hervé Fabre is a master at crafting inky-black Malbecs from his ancient vines rooted at dizzying elevations in the shadow of the Andes. None are more powerful or enticing then the Gran Riserva Malbec, a black, deep, purple-fruited knockout. The 2018 just arrived. The wine goes fast when the score inevitably drops so jump in pre-score, this is impressive wine!
