93 Points, James Suckling

Here it is – Duckhorn’s last vintage ever of Postmark Paso Robles Cabernet. This one comes from premium sites from Adelaida, Estrella, and El Pomar – the same vineyards that supply Daou, Adelaida, and Austin Hope. We’re talking about a dark, juicy Cabernet Sauvignon with layers of blackberry, raspberry, and plum, mingling with dark chocolate, coffee, and earthy undertones, all supported by rich, velvety tannins. The mid-palate is plush, with rich, velvety tannins that carry this beauty in a long and smooth finish. Unsurprisingly it comes equipped with a big score. This is one incredible value that will be missed throughout the wine world.

93 Points, James Suckling
Robust and generous aromas of blackcurrants, cedar, licorice and spices. The palate is full-bodied with finely integrated tannins and bright acidity, giving notes of Damson plums, blackberries, tobacco leaves and graphite. Refined and elegant, with a well-integrated structure.

We’ve been featuring Postmark since its inaugural 2018 vintage, and I was always amazed how Duckhorn managed to craft this Cabernet with all their resources for just $30. Turns out, they couldn’t. The economics never made sense for the winery, even after switching from Napa to Paso Robles in search of more affordable fruit. What seemed like the best Cabernet deal since sliced bread for consumers was ultimately unsustainable for even a powerhouse like Duckhorn.

Dan Duckhorn didn’t build his empire on compromises. When he first decided to make Postmark in Paso Robles, he keyed in on premium fruit from Adelaida, Estrella, and El Pomar – the same vineyards that supply Daou, Adelaida, and Austin Hope. The result was always a gorgeous, well-built Cabernet Sauvignon with layers of blackberry, raspberry, and plum, mingling with dark chocolate, coffee, and earthy undertones, all supported by rich, velvety tannins. It was a dream, and one that couldn’t last forever!
