Domaine Reverdy Bernard et Fils Sancerre 2024

The newly arrived 2024 Bernard Reverdy Sancerre Blanc is a gorgeous wine. It’s tightly wound, opening slowly with a complex nose of citrus, chalk and white flowers. With air, higher tones emerge, with a great mingling of ripe fruit, and stony minerality. Medium-bodied, fresh and focused on the palate, with concise limestone-drive acidity, this is an elegant, lively, and energetic Sancerre that mirrors the warm vintage but also the old vines rooting deep in stony soils. It has a persistent finish filled with tension, that is a classic Sancerre.  A perfect match for shellfish, freshly caught fish or some soft cheeses. This is a winner.

From the first time I visited with Romain Reverdy in Verdigny, I’ve been blown away by this young star who is undoubtedly one of the most promising young vignerons of the appellation. His 2024’s have just come in and they’re completely lights out. It’s incredible how he shows off the rich fruit intensity and power of the vintage with bursting stone fruits that come in waves and show the complexity of the vintage as well.

The vineyards there are mostly rooted in “Caillotes” (small limestone pebbles and rocks with compacted chalky marl) and “Terres Blanches” (Kimmeridgian marl) and with a very small amount of silex (flint).

The whites are precise with a certain softness, but with very tight structure that, stylistically—of recent—are reminiscent of the great Sancerre of the 80’s.
