Domaine Louis Boillot Volnay Les Grands Poisots 2017

Text Exclusive: Direct Import Offer

“The 2017 vintage is a great success for this small but superb domaine.” -Parker’s Wine Advocate

The 2017 Volnay is a masterpiece of Burgundian finesse from a cool but special vintage that was called ‘a gift.’ It offers a beautifully perfumed nose of red cherries, wild strawberries, and crushed violets. On the attack, this Pinot Noir delivers an elegant, silky texture with perfectly integrated, ripe tannins and a bright, lingering finish. I’d throw it in the medium-bodied category. The super power here is that with a few swirls of the glass, it always seems to find a new gear, revealing layer after layer of fresh, silky red cherry and juicy plum notes. This puts to shame a lot of its premier cru neighbors.

“The 2017 Volnay Les Grands Poisots is very successful, revealing aromas of sweet cherries, cassis, grilled meats, espresso roast and raw cocoa. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, supple and gourmand, with a juicy core of fruit, succulent acids and a pure finish.” -Parker’s Wine Advocate

Louis Boillot has long been one of my favorite Burgundy producers due to the never-ending quality and consistency that comes out of that estate. His ‘Les Grands Poisots’ is a 1er Cru standout. It’s an old-vine beauty that’s drawn from 65+ year-old vines on a lieu-dit in Cotes de Beaune.

Today, Ghislaine Barthod and Louis Boillot make their wines side by side in the same cellar. Two legendary winemaking families joined as one. Their son Clément will one day inherit a combined domaine that will be one of the greatest in Burgundy, but for now – these two special estates are making gorgeous, age-worthy Pinot Noir that is particularly memorable and noteworthy.
