93 Points, Wine Enthusiast
Fresh and complex aromas of black fruits, olives, iris, violet and oak spice make for an inviting nose. The palate boasts a generous and balanced delivery of ripe blueberry, black cherry, mushroom and wild thyme. The finish is delightful with pure fruit that stays long through its clean finish. A beautiful bottling that can be enjoyed in its youth.
Domaine Jaume Vinsobres Altitude 420 is an old-vine Grenache-Syrah blend from vineyards planted in Les Collines at some of the highest points in the Rhône. The Jaumes have farmed these dizzying elevations at their estate in Vinsobres for 100+ years.
The newly released 2021 is one of his best yet, pristine and fresh, a bowl full of berried-up fruit yet with the tension and length that belies its humble price. Incredible bang for the buck, tailor-made for anyone’s house red, and a slam dunk for any kind of meat on the bone.
Of course I wasn’t thrilled to see Wine Enthusiast go completely nuts for this one and rave to the world in their 93-point review. As happy as I was for my friends in southern France, not everyone needed to know that they make this ultimate bbq wine! They’ll certainly know now as Wine Enthusiast wrote: “The finish is delightful with pure fruit that stays long through its clean finish. A beautiful bottling that can be enjoyed in its youth.” At this price point, there aren’t many things quite like this.
