The domaine of Henri Germain is now in the hands of his son, the always smiling, always experimenting Jean-Francois. Jean-Francois farms some of the top sites in Meursault; Perrieres, Charmes and Poruzots. His wines are ultra-classic, not flashy, but elegant, fine and so long. They are long-distance runners, built for haute-cuisine and with potential for long aging.
The village Meursault is a blend of some of the best lieux-dit vineyard sites; Clos du Cromin, Dressoles and Les Pellans. The wine has old-vine pedigree, the average age in these plots are 65 years old. The resulting wine racy and mineral yet absolutely packed with concentration.

If you’ve never heard of Bisci, let’s start here. The 2022 Brunori ‘Le Gemme’ Verdichio is everything you’re looking for in a vibrant, food-friendly white wine. About a billion times better than every-day Pinot Grigio, the Brunori is an electric, vibrant white which combines delicious fruit and vibrancy with boasts a killer nose of white peach, honeycomb and almonds. The fruit is wonderfully concentrated with a salty, stony finish that goes forever. The best part of this beauty is that it’s absolutely delicious year round.
Top notch Chenin grown on a biodynamically farmed parcel of gravel over limestone and flint. Vinified dry in steel with no wood aging. From the glass, complex Aromas of Anjou pear, citron, white flowers and cream soar with just a touch of jasmine and honey. On the palate, the wine is rich yet still bone dry with a vibrant core of peach and pear fruits and a fresh crackling of saline and minerality. The zipped up acidity makes this wine both fantastic at the table and a great candidate for aging.
One of my favorite places to look for great Tuesday nighters are the sandy, limestone-laden hills of Asti. Although it is better known for the Moscato, Cortese should be one of its calling cards because in almost no places of the world does it thrive like it does here. Gianni Doglia naturally farms a tiny estate in the picturesque hamlet of Castagnole Lanze. His Cortese is the product of old vines, vinfied without oak to preserve its incredible fruit. It shows that Gianna can do far more than make some sweet whites! It’s got great notes of white peach, lemongrass, tangerine, jasmine blossoms and honeydew with a little salty lime zest on the finish. A great choice for a house white and the perfect pair for a pizza with a white sauce.
