Domaine de Pouy has been one of France’s best white wine producers for decades. Robert Parker, Jr. himself spent years gushing over the wines, calling it “always one of his favorite inexpensive dry whites”, “One of America’s finest white wine values” and that the “exuberant, super-aromatic white was one of the best in Cotes de Gascogne, a region known for churning out some of the most interesting and affordable wines anywhere in the world.
The newly released 2021 Domaine de Pouy Cotes de Gascogne comes out a perfect time, just in time for the unofficial start of summer. This is an electric white wine value that owes much of its energy and freshness to its cold soaks on the skins during harvest and never touching oak in the aging process. That leaves a pent up white wine loaded with aromatics that jumps out of the bottle with green apple, melon and citrus with a racy finish.

Every year, this wine has proven to be a Nicholas Wines staple. The newly released 2022 Frenzy Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc is a fabulous value white wine, loaded with green apples, pears and white peaches plus a hint of spice. It’s juicy and fresh, the perfect cocktail hour white. It’s what is referred to as the perfect ‘pool wine’. It’s great paired with just about anything or just enjoyed on its own.

Every year, Pierre Sparr’s Alsacian Riesling is one of the top scoring wines in the under $20 category. There’s a consistency there and consumers know they can count on a Riesling that is aromatic, fruity, elegant, clean and vibrant. Pierre Sparr wines are extremely food-friendly especially in the highly-regarded 2020 vintage where yields were down but quality rose to an all-time high. It’s a bone-dry beauty with layers of citrus fruits, framed by wet stone and mineral character that adds dimension.
Jean-Claude Janin’s Domaine des Terres de Chatenay estate has 7 hectares of naturally farmed, old-vine Chardonnay with his vines rooted in some of the most mineral soil in all of Burgundy. The resulting wines are electric renditions of white Burgundy, with high-toned, floral aromatics, a deep concentration of green apple and pear fruit and a laser-like finish that is stony, a touch saline and a mile long. The 2021 is an extra notable year – despite a lower than normal yield, the quality across the board in Burgundy is exceptional.
For only the second time ever, we got our hands on Sea Smoke’s elusive, exclusive and exquisite Santa Rita Hills Chardonnay. This is the famous cool climate Chardonnay that helped propel this tiny winery into the elite stratosphere and cult status that they enjoy today. Made with Dijon and Wente clones, they use stainless steel as well as French oak foudres and demi-muids to ferment their Chard, producing and elegant and laser focused Chardonnay.
