The 2022 Domaine Bernard Defaix Petit Chablis is a ringer. Whether you’re a seasoned Chablis enthusiast or just beginning to explore the world of French wines, the 2022 Domaine Bernard Defaix Petit Chablis is a must-try. With its crisp acidity, vibrant fruit flavors, and chalky minerality, this wine is a true expression of the terroir of Chablis, and in a bright and highly energetic style.
How can they do that for less?
Bernard Defaix is now a fourth generation family-owned winery with a specialty in vine-growing. This has been a slow build for the family, starting with just two hectares and growing it to today’s number which sits just below 30 hectares.
With all that land under vine, the family is able to make some of the best wines in the subregion from Premier Cru Chablis, all the way down to highly affordable Petit Chablis – what we have here today. Without their own estate vines, Petit Chablis prices are going to be closer to this wine’s release price at $30/bottle. Not where we get to be today.
Thanks to a deal weeks in the making, we’re able to lock into an electrifying Petit Chablis that perfectly encapsulates what the best wines here have in common: beautiful stone fruit, white flowers, with juicy citrus notes, lively acidity and piercing minerality. They just don’t offer them for this price anymore.

I’ve forewarned Nicholas Wines customers that the 2022 vintage in Burgundy appears to be outstanding. As such, I’ve been stocking up on as much as I can. This one though is a Saturday Nighter – a special wine for sure. It comes from Fourchaume (one of the most noted Chablis 1ers crus) and vineyards situated on long slopes facing the sunrise, which allow for rapid soil warm up – a huge key to making deep, concentrated Chablis. Here the soils are predominantly brown clay and only slightly stony. Most of them are fairly deep and well-draining. It’s one of those most special white wine locations in all of Burgundy. This is a classic.
Elena Walch’s newly released 2022 Pinot Bianco continues to be the best example of Pinot Blanc anywhere. She’s the undisputed queen. There’s so much energy in this new release. Super light in color, with a busy nose that boasts ripe aromas of citrus, granny smith apple with a hint of freshly mowed grass. Made entirely in stainless steel, the wine is expressive, fresh and finishes as clean and tight as can be. Definitely will continue the run of 90+ scores once this one is reviewed.

If you’ve never heard of Bisci, let’s start here. Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate called Giuseppe Bisci’s Verdicchio “one of the finest I’ve ever tasted,” and noted that “Verdicchio is one of the joys of Italian oenology that rarely gets the respect it deserves, and few producers do it better than Bisci.” A staple at $85/bottle for both French Laundry and Eleven Madison Park. “Verdicchio is one of the joys of Italian oenology that rarely gets the respect it deserves, and few producers do it better than Bisci.” – The Wine Advocate
This is a super elegant Meursault from the family-run estate located in the village of Monthelie, between Volnay and Meursault in the heart of Burgundy’s Côte de Beaune. It leads with nutty aromas of brioche, fresh butter and delicate citrus and is extremely well structured, long and stylish with great purity of fruit.
