Domaine Barolet-Pernot Saint Romain Rouge 2022
The 2022 Saint-Romain is a knockout Pinot Noir that comes from 350-375 meters in elevation on the southern end of the village of Saint-Romain along a giant hillside. All the vines here are between 45-55 years of age, and all the soil is marl and limestone with patches of clay. It’s a super bright and energetic Pinot Noir that’s medium-bodied with a lot of beautiful natural acidity. That gives it a lot of character as does the slight spice from the elegant and refined fruit. On the back palate, notes of minerality creep in and stay with you through the finish. There’s plenty there to dazzle the Pinot lover.

Domaine Barolet-Pernot is a family-owned winery located in Saint-Romain in France’s famed Burgundy region. It has been in existence for four generations and is known for producing high-quality Chardonnay and Pinot Noir and their reputation is growing rapidly with the latest generation.
Armed with beautiful vineyards in Saint-Romain, Auxey-Duresses, Puligny-Montrachet, and Beaune, it’s been 4th generation winemaker Romain who has helped boost this winery to never before seen heights. Since 2017, Romain has managed the entire Saint-Romain estate navigating the complexities of the vigneron path with a meticulous drive.
I had the pleasure of sitting down with Romain Barolet for almost 90 minutes on my last trip to France and he blew me away. You can tell his drive is second to none and its one that I see less and less these days! There’s something incredibly special in the way he creates mineral-driven, beautifully sculpted white and red burgundy.
