Denner Vineyards ‘Night Shade’ Red Paso Robles 2024

93 Points, James Suckling – 91 Points, Wine Enthusiast (Last Vintage)

This is a beautiful, dark Rhone Blend that shows that Paso Robles is ready for the international stage in a big way. It’s so dark and beautiful in the glass, with enticing Paso Robles aromatics of black cherry, pomegranate, fresh blueberry muffins and baking spices. On the attack it’s a full-bodied, deep yet focused blend with an exciting core of ripe dark fruit wrapped in velvety, fine-grained tannins, and lifted by a lively natural acidity that keeps all that richness in check. Notes of dark chocolate, and hints of spice are present at the warm, and mouthcoating finish that sticks with you for a little while. What a beauty!

93 Points, James Suckling
This layered, luscious and deep red is the premiere vintage. Aromas of dark fruit, violets, star anise, darkest chocolate and spearmint are followed by creme de cassis, blueberries and blackberries on a full body. Moderate tannins. A blend of mostly Rhone and Bordeaux grape varieties. Drink now.

91 Points, Wine Enthusiast
Baked red fruit aromas make for a pleasant is slightly simple nose on this bottling. The palate shifts into a dried berry tone, with hints of pepper and leather adding depth.

Denner Vineyards is a highly respected and acclaimed winery located on the far western side of the Paso Robles AVA in California. Founded by Ron Denner in 1999, after an extensive search for the ideal vineyard site, the estate boasts a 156-acre parcel that presses up against the Santa Lucia Range.

This location in the Templeton Gap provides a unique microclimate with significant diurnal temperature swings (warm days, cool nights) due to marine influences, creating optimal conditions for growing a diverse range of grape varieties. They even sell some of their high-quality fruit to other premium Paso Robles producers, a testament to their vineyard’s caliber.

The estate is known for its incredible vineyard diversity, with 108 acres under vine comprised of 19 different varieties planted across 26 unique blocks. The soils are predominantly rocky and calcareous (limestone), which is highly prized in Paso Robles for promoting vine health and producing wines with excellent acidity and minerality.
