What makes this vintage particularly compelling is its unprecedented Cabernet Sauvignon composition – the highest percentage ever included in the Confidences blend. This mirrors the grand vin more closely than any previous vintage, bringing additional structure and aging potential to what already was a serious wine. Prieuré-Lichine’s 50+ hectares across Margaux’s most coveted soils help produce exceptional Cabernet Sauvignon in 2016, and the team chose to showcase it prominently throughout both wines.
This one leads with an aromatics fireworks and then you’re met with big, juicy concentrated dark fruit, along with that mineral backbone that defines serious Margaux terroir. The increased Cabernet Sauvignon provides some serious depth while still maintaining the elegant profile that separates Margaux from other Left Bank appellations.

The red fruit is very appealing here with a wealth of raspberries and mulberries, as well as redcurrant notes. The palate has attractively juicy and succulent red berries and a chalky, piercing finish. Second wine of Château Prieuré-Lichine. Try from 2023.
Confidences de Prieuré-Lichine is the estate’s second wine, and its name literally suggests a more intimate, charming expression. It is produced from the younger vines on the property and from batches of wine that did not meet the strict criteria for the Grand Vin.
The blend for Confidences often has a higher percentage of Merlot, which makes it more approachable and fruit-forward. But not in their home-run 2016 vintage. No doubt the higher proportion of Cabernet Sauvignon made this wine a little less approachable in its youth, but it has helped turn this aged Bordeaux into one of the greatest Left Bank values you may ever see.
