ColleMassari Vermentino Toscana 2024

93 Points, James Suckling

ColleMassari is the most important and largest estate of the Montecucco appellation in central Tuscany. Their impact on the region cannot be understated. Their 2024 Vermentino is a vibrant and aromatic beauty. You get a full range of flavors here: everything from white peach to wild sage, with that salty coastal minerality that makes you think you’re tasting right next to the Mediterranean itself. This is Vermentino elevated to an art form – fresh, vertical, sophisticated as hell.

A leafy and citrusy wine with aromas of sage, mint and grapefruit. Light-bodied, it shows zesty acidity balanced by flavors of fruit and leaves and a tight, polished texture. From organically grown grapes. Drink now.

The vineyards are located on the Montecucco hill that is the reason for the name of the appellation. The vines on the Montecucco hill are the oldest Sangiovese vines of the DOCG. I’ve known the wines and have had them on different occasion and have always enjoyed their full lineup.

Like many great estates in Italy, they have a full range of wines and the quality across the board is always dialed, so it’s hard to know which of their wines you’re tasting. Their work with Italian whites is pretty remarkable
