This is an incredible wine pulled from the rocky volcanic soils of Campania at nearly 2000 feet elevation. From crushed stone to lemeon sorbet to the complex minerality that you get here – you can tell that this is a layered white with a lot going on and so much to offer. This limited release is made with fruit sourced from a high-elevation site (parcel 906) at 650 meters in elevation with rocky volcanic clay soils. The lovely Ciro Picariello 2022 Fiano di Avellino Ciro 906 shows impeccable balance and freshness despite the very warm growing season. This unoaked wine appears younger than it really is. Lemon curd, unripe peach and sweet pear emerge from the bouquet. That cool elevation fruit makes all the difference and gives the wine good runway for cellar aging. Only 3,000 bottles were created.

The quote above is not to be taken lightly, because Joe is probably right. I mean this is totally, totally knock-out Fiano that’s on a different level than most of its peers. Ciro Picariello is a special producer in Southern Italy that is raising the bar for the entire region.
