Perfectly situated in the northwest corner of St. Émilion, near the border shared with Pomerol is the gorgeous Chateau Chauvin. The Grand cru classe estate spanning 37 acres is sandwiched between neighbors Chateau Cheval Blanc and La Dominique with the entire vineyard planted on a single block.
The Chateau is owned by one of the most famous and powerful women in Bordeaux, Sylvie Cazes, who became the first woman to hold the position as president of the Union de Grand Crus de Bordeaux in 2012. On top of that and owning and managing Chateau Chauvin with her brother, Jean Michel (founder/owner Lynch Bages), she also owns the 3-star Michelin restaurant, Le Chapon Fin.
This wine is the flagship wine, the first from Chateau Chauvin and the big brother to the 2015 Folie de Chauvin that we saw a few weeks ago. The 2016 Chauvin has offers up dark fruited and sage medley aromas with excellent precision and structure and a finish that lasts longs and reminds you of the gripps tannins. This one is showing really nicely now, but also has the ability to last 15 years easily.

94 Points, Decanter
Easily one of the most impressive of the lineup, just bursting with fruit and power – tight firm tannins giving clear support and backbone. This is a fairly Left Bank feel for a St Emilion, perhaps from its dash of Cabernet Sauvignon, and it successfully delivers a recognisable Chauvin signature. A beautiful vibrant violet rim suggests this is going to age well.
94 Points, James Suckling
Blackberry, blueberry and floral aromas follow through to a full body, tight and chewy tannins and a flavorful finish. Drink in 2023. A château to watch in the future.

This is Joe Wagner and Quilt’s inaugural Red blend called Threadcount. It is a total knockout at the price point for this style of wine. It’s a big voluptuous wine and very fruit forward. The nose is straight up dark chocolate dipped raspberries and it tastes of fresh-baked blueberry pie, spice, and a touch of toffee. It’s the kind of quality blend that you’ve come to expect from the family behind Caymus.

“Pure perfection in a glass, the incredible 2009 Troplong Mondot offers off the chart notes of blackcurrants, licorice, truffles and saddle leather that just soar from the glass. This is a big, ripe, incredibly sexy wine that hits the palate with a huge texture, building, ripe tannin, no weight, and a finish that just won’t quit. Utterly brilliant stuff, it’s slightly more approachable than the 2005, but both of these vintages play in the same style. Drink bottles anytime over the coming two to three decades. Bravo!” -Jeb Dunnuck

“Quite simply Giscours is magnificent in 2019 and also one of the rising stars of Margaux today. Pliant, supple and creamy the 2019 races out of the glass with striking dimension. Ripe red cherry red plum blood orange spice and new leather all flesh out in a radiant finessed Giscours that hits all the right notes. The 2019 is fabulous – that’s all there is to it.” -Antonio Galloni

“The 2018 Ronan by Client is medium to deep garnet-purple in color, it has fragrant notes of black and red cherries and blackberry preserves with cinnamon toast and fallen leaves. Medium-bodied, it is lively and fresh with a grainy texture and savory finish. This is a good value wine.” -Lisa Perotti-Brown
