Chateau Tour du Pas Saint-Georges Saint-Emilion 2022

92 Points, James Suckling – 91 Points, Decanter – 90 Points, Vinous

Pascal Delbeck was in charge of vineyards and cellars at both Château Ausone and Château Bel Air, two of the finest vineyards on Saint-Emilion’s limestone ‘Côte.’ Following the death of owner Madame Dubois-Challon, Pascal continued to live at Bel Air, which was left to him in her will—a clear tribute to his skill and integrity. But when the vineyard was eventually acquired by the Moueix family, Pascal devoted himself entirely to his vineyard of Tour du Pas Saint-Georges.

The wine he makes is one of those I called affordable luxurious. It’s a beautiful, food-friendly treat, but it’s also priced to be enjoyed any night of the week guilt-free. It’s perfect for those nights when you want serious Bordeaux without the serious prices – whether it’s a casual dinner that deserves something special or weekend hosting when you want to impress without breaking the budget.

Original price was: $24.00.Current price is: $19.99.

92 Points, James Suckling
Attractive nose of hot chocolate, hazelnuts, rosehips and cherries follow through to a creamy, juicy and full-bodied palate. The tannins are fine and lightly chalky. Mostly merlot with some cabernet franc, malbec and petit verdot. Drink after 2026.

91 Points, Decanter
Strongly scented with perfumed floral and ripe fruit aromas. Smells lively and open. Smooth and fruity with high acidity that really lifts this and gives tons of freshness but still with the ripe, concentrated fruit underneath which gives a nice contrast. Ends mineral and salty with liquorice and clove spice adding further complexity.

90 Points, Vinous
The 2022 Tour du Pas Saint-Georges is a big, big wine. Succulent dark plum, espresso, licorice, new leather and incense saturate the palate. This unapologetically rich, opulent Saint-Georges Saint-Emilion is not at all subtle, but it is well done. A touch of savory complexity from the Cabernet Franc lingers.

Château Tour du Pas Saint-Georges is a highly-rated red wine estate located in the Saint-Georges-Saint-Émilion appellation of Bordeaux, France.

The legendary winemaker behind this project is Pascal Delbeck, the former star at prestigious Château Ausone. A fifth-generation winegrower, Pascal studied viticulture and oenology before joining Ausone, eventually becoming manager and then owner when he succeeded Madame Dubois-Challon in 2003. This comes from the Saint-Georges-Saint-Émilion appellation, reputed to be the best of the Saint-Émilion satellites.
