Chateau Peyrassol La Croix IGP Mediteranee Rose 2023

This is a total gem from the famous family behind Peyrassol. The newly release ‘La Croix’ Rose is an extremely quaffable Rose that’s equally well-suited for the pool deck as well as the dinner table. It’s so inviting with aromas of peach, apricots and wild flowers. On the palate, nothing but the juiciness of citrus, honeysuckle, melon and wild berries. It’s a crisp, refreshing Rose that is bone dry with a hint of salinity and minerality on the close. An absolute treat in a glass.

Original price was: $25.00.Current price is: $20.95.

Tucked away in the foothills of the Massif des Maures, the winery has nearly 95 hectares of planted vines dedicated almost entirely to the production of pink wines. Peyrassol has been making wine for over 800 years, started by the Knights Templar in the 13th century.

The vineyards are planted up to 1000 feet in elevation, surrounded by groves of olive trees and ancient oaks. The soil here is special. A mixture of limestone and clay, the dirt here traces back to the Triassic era.

Planted throughout are the traditional Provence grapes used for making the most racy and interesting Rosés. Grenache, Cinsault, Syrah, Carignan, Mourvedre… it’s all here and farmed organically. No shortcuts taken, no expenses spared.

For my money, their Cuvee des Commandeurs is probably the top Rose made each year out of Provence. It’s a serious and intricate Rose with considerable weight and depth. It’s not the ‘light and fun’ Rose that you probably think of when you think about pink wines.
It ain’t cheap, but Peyrassol’s newest offering has that covered.
