94+ Pts, Parker’s Wine Advocate – 94 Pts, Lisa Perotti-Brown, 93 Pts, Wine Enthusiast, 93 Pts, James Suckling

“The high spots for quality in 2015 are St.-Emilion and Margaux, both of which are electric, rivaling the appellations’ 2010s, the current benchmark vintage for the region.” -Wine Spectator

Nearly 10 years on from its release, I managed to snag 96 bottles from the lights-out 2015 vintage, a year that saw this wine blessed with four different 93+ point reviews including a glowing 94+ point review from Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate doling out adjectives like “lively”, “generous”, “savory” and “gorgeous”.

After tasting this in a lineup with some top Right Bank bottles, I’m telling you this is firmly in its drinking prime and more than held its own with every single wine I tasted. It’s showing beautifully right now and should drink great for the next 5-7 years.

Original price was: $65.00.Current price is: $55.00.

94+ Points, Parker’s Wine Advocate
This property is owned and managed by the Vauthier family of Château Ausone. The 2015 Moulin Saint-Georges is blended of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc, aged for 18 months in French oak barrels, 85% new. Medium to deep garnet-purple colored, it reveals a gorgeous plum preserves, licorice and blackberry pie-laced nose with touches of cedar chest, cigar box, black olives and forest floor. Medium to full-bodied, concentrated and very firmly textured with grainy tannins, it has a lively backbone supporting the generous black fruit, finishing with lingering savory notes. Give it a good 5 years or more in bottle and drink it over the next 20+ years.

94 Points, The Wine Independent
“A blend of 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc, the 2015 Moulin Saint Georges is medium to deep garnet in color. It waltzes out with notions of cedar, tilled soil, and fallen leaves, giving way to a core of stewed black plums, dried mulberries, and fruit cake, with a touch of tobacco. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is chock-full of black fruit preserves and savory accents, with plush tannins and seamless freshness, finishing long and opulent.”

Bordeaux is one of those magical wine places where estates get passed down from generation to generation, staying in the family for hundreds of years.

The Vauthiers are one such family – owners of Chateau Ausone since 1690, they’re now incredibly onto their 11th generation of winemakers.

Ausone, one of the heralded First Growths of the 1855 Classification, is a Saint-Emilion star – but the family also owns five other properties in Bordeaux that make plenty of their own noise, such as Chateau Pavie, La Fleur-Pedesse, and Moulin St-Georges.

Chateau Moulin-St. Georges actually faces Ausone. It’s perfectly sandwiched between its First Growth sibling, Chateau la Gaffeliere and Pavie Macquin. This is Saint-Emilion prime real estate and as a result, Moulin St. Georges offers a considerable discount compared to its neighbors. It’s a Right Bank home-run value that should be sought out by Bordeaux lovers.
