95 Pts (Cellar Selection) Wine Enthusiast – 94 Pts, James Suckling – 93 Pts, Decanter – 93 Pts, Vinous

This is an absolutely insanely good Left Bank Bordeaux that would be a screaming value at $50/btl let alone today’s price. Jeb Dunnuck waxed poetic writing, “Seemingly always terrific, the 2020 Chateau Lilian Ladouys shows the class of the vintage.” Wine Enthusiast gave it a 95-point score and labeled it a ‘Cellar Selection’ while Decanter came in with a 93-point score calling this “one of the clear leaders of the new Cru Bourgeois Exceptionnel category.” Lastly, Antonio Galloni weighed in with a 93-point score of his own for a wine he dubbed “just gorgeous.”

Original price was: $35.00.Current price is: $27.50.

95 Points (Cellar Selection), Wine Enthusiast
The combination of powerful tannins and equally generous black fruits is a fine harbinger for this wine’s development. Big, bold and juicy with a dense structure, the wine is for long-term aging.

94 Points, James Suckling
Blackcurrant, bitter-chocolate, dried-lavender and graphite aromas. It’s full-bodied with firm, tightly knit tannins. Tight and mineral at the moment. Really well-crafted. Try from 2024.

93 Points, Vinous
The 2020 Lilian Ladouys is a real charmer, just as it was from barrel. Silky, aromatic and nuanced, Lilian Ladouys presents a profile redolent of red fruit, cedar, spice and crushed flowers. This mid-weight Saint-Estephe is just gorgeous.

93 Points, Decanter
Juicy, well-balanced, plenty of personality, with enough juice through the mid palate to balance out the big tannins that are pretty inescapable in any wines of ambition in 2020. The finish closes in sharply, but this is an enjoyable wine from the Lorenzetti-owned Lilian Ladouys (and for me one of the clear leaders of the new Cru Bourgeois Exceptionnel category)

Château Lilian Ladouys, nestled in the heart of Saint-Estèphe, is a testament to the enduring legacy of Bordeaux winemaking. This estate, with roots stretching back centuries, has seen a remarkable resurgence under the ownership of the Lorenzetti family.

The wines produced here are a reflection of the region’s terroir, showcasing the power and structure that Cabernet Sauvignon imparts, balanced with the richness of Merlot and the complexity of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. In particular, the Château Lilian Ladouys wines are known for their robust character, with dark fruits, firm tannins, and excellent aging potential. They represent the quintessential Saint-Estèphe profile, offering a compelling blend of tradition and modernity.

This is easily one of the most compelling choices for those seeking high-quality Bordeaux without the exorbitant price tag. The rare combination of quality, value, and classic Saint-Estèphe character has solidified Château Lilian Ladouys’s position as a rising star in the region.
