Chateau Guiraud ‘G’ Bordeaux Blanc 2022

94 Points, Jane Anson – 92 Points, Decanter

This is an electric, dry, yet juicy ‘G’ Bordeaux Blanc that comes packed with personality and some huge scores. Quince, stone fruit, and jasmine lead here, but then the creamy mid-palate steals the show with some really nice depth and a lovely, subtle salinity that can be found throughout.

The 2022 ‘G’ Bordeaux Blanc from Guiraud is about as emphatic a debut as Garbay could’ve hoped. 94 points from Bordeaux expert, Jane Anson who was very complimentary of the former d’Yquem winemaker, calling it “Good stuff, now overseen by Sandrine Garbay, formerly of Château d’Yquem.” Decanter was also a big fan, noticing right away a “richer style” for the wine, giving it 92 points, and calling out its “silky texture.”

Original price was: $28.00.Current price is: $22.00.

“Such a consistent dry white in the appellation, this has the exotic mango, pineapple and nectarine depths to the fruit that is typical to the vintage, given a lift by pineapple and citrus zest. Good stuff, now overseen by Sandrine Garbay, formerly of Château d’Yquem.”

92 Points, Decanter
Richer in mouthfeel than some vintages of G de Guiraud, this has a lovely tang of lime juice and lemongrass and silky texture – enjoyable and with a twist on the finish.

Oliver Bernard is hell-bent on creating the best white wine the world has ever seen – no matter how he has to go about doing it. It’s been a decades-long uphill battle, but it’s been the pursuit of perfection that is responsible for the incredible gains that Chateau Guiraud & Domaine de Chevalier have seen.

Perhaps no estate produces better white Bordeaux than Domaine de Chevalier in Graves. Since 1983, Olivier has run the winemaking show at Domaine de Chevalier. But after nearly 35 years of doing the same thing, he also took on winemaking duties at the great Chateau Guiraud, the well-known Premier Cru Classé producer of the sweet white wine Sauternes.

Recently, Oliver has slowed just a touch and doesn’t want the dream to die. Admittedly, he can’t attend to his vineyards and responsibilities as well as he once could. So selflessly, to bolster his winery to new heights, he made an all-time gambit, poaching one of the world’s all-time great female winemakers, Sandrine Garbay away from Chateau d’Yquem to lead the winemaking duties at Guiraud in late 2021. Garbay had been at d’Yquem for over 27 years(!), overseeing some of the greatest vintages ever made.
