“This delightful dry rosé should delight red and white wine lovers alike.” – Wine Enthusiast
Roses rarely see 90-point scores or get better with age. But this one does and has two 93-pt reviews!
The region of Tavel in the southern Rhône, directly across the Rhône River from Châteauneuf-du-Pape, is lauded for making some of the best rosés in the world. It might be the only region that makes pink wines that actually can benefit from aging.
That makes sense when you consider the grapes that go into the wines are also used to make CDPs: Grenache, Cinsault, Mourvèdre, Syrah, Carignan to name a few. These wines are gorgeous to look at, gorgeous to drink and can age– they’re pretty hard not to love.
Today’s Tavel comes from the superstar winemakers at Chateau d’Aqueria – one of the best known estates in the entire region. They knock it out of the park every year but this vintage takes it a step further with both critics who reviewed it chiming in with 93-point ratings.

Quite a serious, savoury nose, showing black cherry and garrigue herbs. Full-bodied, with real depth and power. Acidity and alcohol are well balanced and it has a slightly chalky texture. An authentic Tavel, made in a traditional rather than natural style. Estate now owned by Guigal.
93 Points, Wine Enthusiast
Opulent and juicy, this full-bodied Tavel highlights the fleshy red plum and cherry flavors of Grenache against the peppery, herbal spice of Syrah and a flash of citrusy Clairette. Deep, dusky pink in color, it’s a concentrated, thirst-quenching rosé that will drink well into the autumn and winter months.

The 2016 Val di Suga Brunello is spectacular– easily one of the best 2016s that I’ve been able to taste. Armed with vineyards in the top three spots of Montalcino, Val di Suga blends elements of each into their flagship Brunellos– continuously making some of the most interesting Sangiovese in the region. Critics always love them, and in 2016s, it is no surprise that trend continues. Double 94-point scores from both Jeb Dunnuck and Italian expert, James Suckling with Wine Spectator joining in on the fun with a 93-point review of their own.

You aren’t going to do better finding a racy, mouthwateringly spicy, zipped-up bottle of Rose than this Italian gem. You’re certainly not going to find one as highly rated or highly recommended by two very-well respected wine critics. And, of course, you won’t find an uglier label out there either.
The wine itself is dark purple in color, with lifted aromatics of black cherry, lavender, thyme, and anise. The fruit is pure, juicy, and vibrant with great tension. The finish is classic Provençal, savory and stony, super fresh and long. I’m telling you, this wine absolutely over-delivers. It’s got a beautiful dark color and structure of Cabernet with the fruit and garrigue-spice ala the top Southern Rhone Grenache and Syrah, making this one delicious summer red that is absolutely perfect with burgers on the grill or roasted leg o’ lamb.

Domaine Jaume Vinsobres Altitude 420 is an old-vine Grenache-Syrah blend from vineyards planted in Les Collines at some of the highest points in the Rhône. The Jaumes have farmed these dizzying elevations at their estate in Vinsobres for 100+ years. The 2020 is one of his best yet, pristine and fresh, a bowl full of berried-up fruit yet with the tension and length that belies its humble price. Incredible bang for the buck, tailor-made for anyone’s house red, and a slam dunk for any kind of meat on the bone.
