Caymus Vineyards Special Selection Cabernet Sauvignon 2010 (1.5L Magnum)

Categories , ,

It’s incredibly difficult getting your hands on the regular Caymus Cabernet let alone the Special Selection– the flagship wine from the famous estate. But, occasionally at Nicholas Wines, we are able to make the impossible happen. While in the deep restaurant vault the other week I stumbled upon four bottles of the Caymus Special Selection Cabernet.  The two time Wine Spectator Wine of the Year winner didn’t win for the 2010 vintage, so it will just have to settle for a Top 100 appearance and a 96-point score from the Spectator and an absolutely glowing 98-Point review from the king himself, Robert Parker, Jr. who called this aged, knock-out beauty a “full-bodied, iconic classic”.

Only 3 magnums (1.5 liters) are up for grabs. This is a real treat for whoever scoops them up.

Original price was: $570.00.Current price is: $399.00.

98 Points, Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate
The 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon Special Selection exhibits an opaque purple color, slightly more toasty oak in the aromatics, and explosive richness on the attack, mid-palate and length. The nose is slightly more restrained than in the regular bottling, but there is no doubting the Special Selection is a cut or two above the Napa bottling when it hits the palate. Extraordinary purity of fruit, creme de cassis, licorice and incense all emerge from this full-bodied, iconic classic. It can be enjoyed now and over the next 25+ years.

96 Points, Wine Spectator
A seductive style that’s openly fruity, showing supple plum and black cherry notes, with floral scents and spices, turning creamy and gaining a mocha-espresso-vanilla scent that’s enticing. Finishes with a smooth texture, fine-grained tannins and then another burst of fruit.

98 Points, Parker’s Wine Advocate – 96 Points (Top 100), Wine Spectator

You’re simply not going to find this anywhere else. The flagship wine at Caymus Vineyards and one of the premier American Cabernet Sauvignon bottles in the marketplace: the Special Selection Cab. This wine is every year one of the best Cabs made in the world, and every bit worthy of winning Wine Spectator’s Wine of the Year twice. It didn’t win in the 2010 vintage, but it very well could have– it’s absolutely flawless. In a fantastic vintage that has proven to be one of Napa’s finest, this beauty earned a rave 98-point review from Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate. Robert Parker, Jr. himself called this baby a “full-bodied, iconic classic.”  I cracked open one of my 4 bottles recently for a special occasion and the wine blew everybody away. This one is a little treat from me to you from the restaurant vault. Only 3 bottles up for grabs.
