Casalcomignoli Barbaresco 2021

Categories , , , Tag

92 Points, James Suckling

This is modern Nebbiolo done right. Grown in the gorgeous rolling hills around Cuneo and Treiso in classic Barbaresco country. This beauty is lush and aromatic with a velvety texture, but still retains all the elegant, floral, spicy complexity that makes Barbaresco special. Red fruit, rose petals, orange peel, dusty minerality. Fine tannins that are beautifully integrated.

James Suckling gave it 92 points and called it “lovely” with “ripe red berries, roses and mushroomy notes” with “very fine tannins” and fruit that shines through with its purity thanks in part to the bright acidity. He deemed it “drinkable even now, but better from 2027.” I agree. This one is ready to drink now, absolutely, but still has so many more years to go.

Original price was: $30.00.Current price is: $26.00.

Lovely, aromatic nose with telltale nebbiolo aromas, including ripe red berries, roses and mushroomy notes. Medium-bodied with very fine tannins that firm up a little on the finish, but the fruit runs freely thanks to bright acidity. Drinkable even now, but better from 2027.

The Casalcomignoli Barbaresco is the personal project of legendary Barolo producer Luciano Sandrone, who decided he wanted to explore “the other side” of Nebbiolo.

Tragically, Luciano passed away in 2023, making this one of his final wines—a poignant reminder of his incredible legacy. Known for making some of the absolute best wines in Barolo, Sandrone brought his signature precision and meticulous approach to Barbaresco with stunning results.
