Anna and Stephan Reimann are the husband and wife team behind this wonderful little boutique winery on the outskirts of Mosel along the Saar river. It’s a newer project – founded in 2016 – but the two are such passionate sustainable farmers that they’re already seeing pretty incredible results with their Trocken (dry) Rieslings.
The wine is pulled from a steeply sloped vineyard high above the Saar river. It completely soars with notes of white peach, mango and mandarin orange. On the palate, it’s dry, yet somehow still a little creamy and dense with a piercing minerality that is backed by notes of green apple, pear and candied ginger.
Like all of the wines at Weingut Cantzheim, this beauty was harvested and sorted all by hand and then gentle pressed where it remains on its lees until bottling. That helps give this so much more concentration, depth and personality, making this a very serious Riesling. It’s the kind of wine that will make you think while also exciting you.
