Candialle ‘Ciclope’ Toscana 2012

The wine is a bit shy at first, but with a little time in the glass, it reveals its true character. The profile leans toward dark, spicy fruit – juicy blackberry, blueberry and black cherry notes complemented by baking spices. There’s still some grip to the tannins, but they’re balanced perfectly by vibrant fruit and acidity.

What’s fascinating is that structurally, it drinks more like an aged Chianti Classico rather than the massive, plush style that many Super Tuscans adopted. But unlike Chianti, this offers a more dark-fruited and savory profile that comes from a rare, but seamless Merlot-Petit Verdot blend.

Original price was: $40.00.Current price is: $23.00.

Back in 2012, Candialle was still producing their “Ciclope” Toscana – a true Bordeaux Blend that included various combinations of Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot and Merlot. It was their unique take on the Super Tuscan style that had set them apart from the rest of the ‘Super Tuscan’ movement.

But in 2016, Candialle made a dramatic decision to return to their roots – they discontinued their entire Super Tuscan program to focus exclusively on Sangiovese. That means what we have today is not just a great wine at a great price – it’s a piece of Tuscan winemaking history that will never be made again.
