Bouvet Ladubay was founded all the way back in 1851 by Etienne Bouvet and is the second oldest sparkling wine–producing house in Saumur. It’s a Loire-based firm known for being one of France’s greatest producers of méthode traditionnelle sparkling wine. It has been a subsidiary of Taittinger since 1974.
Amazingly, they make nearly 6 million bottles of wine a year, easily making them one of the biggest and baddest producers in the land. Bouvet sources its fruit from more than 100 plots in the Loire Valley, obtaining the best quality each harvest through its long-standing relationships with winegrowers. The salmon pink color of this brut rosé is obtained from the red Cabernet Franc grapes with a quick maceration on the skins.

“The 2019 Brut from Alta Langa, is remarkably pretty, with a delicate blend of peaches and young mango complicated by hints of incense and spice. This displays round, soothing textures and juicy acidity with a core of tart orchard fruits that add a lovely tension toward the close. It finishes with medium length, leaving a twang of sour citrus and a steely minerality that adds a tactile touch. The 2019 is beautifully crafted and displays incredible balance. Well done. This is a blend of 80% Pinot Noir and 20% Chardonnay”

A seamless Bordeaux blend of 80% Cabernet, 17% Merlot and 3% Petit Verdot that is incredibly smoothly now but should have another decade easy of prime drinking. It is the definition of a Saturday Night bottle of wine. One to cherish for a special occasion.

This one has always been my go-to for entertaining – I just hand everyone a glass upon arrival and people are always thrilled. The new batch of 2020 Barmes Cremant has just landed – and it’s so dang good. So much freshness and energy, with a beautiful nose of green apple and Anjou pear with tinges of honey, white nuts and white flowers. The fruit is near perfect, richly concentrated with a creamy texture. The finish is endless, with the tiniest of bubbles, with a zippy acidity that makes it perfect with seafood.
The Bernard Reverdy Sancerre Rose 2022 is gorgeous. A beautiful pale pink to the brim, this baby is fresh and super aromatic with a complex nose of citrus, wild strawberries and white flowers. With air, higher tones emerge, with a great mingling of ripe fruit, and stony minerality. Medium-bodied, fresh and focused on the palate, with concise limestone-drive acidity, this is an elegant, lively, and energetic Sancerre Rose that mirrors the warm vintage but also the old vines rooting deep in stony soils. This is so much better than your run-of-the mill Rose – it’s an ageworthy, food-friendly Rose
