91 Points, Parker’s Wine Advocate
The very young and pale 2025 Rosado, produced exclusively with Garnacha since 2018, displays a bright pink color and a slightly reductive nose with notes of dry roses and a serious feeling, balanced and dry, with contained ripeness and 13% alcohol. It has a medium-bodied palate with balance and freshness, and it’s clean and tasty.

Bodegas Olivares is one of those under-the-radar, but oh so reliable producers that have been farming the same incredible piece of land in the northwestern corner of Jumilla since 1930, when founder Pascual Olivares Fernández planted his first vines and decided to bet the house on Monastrell.

Nearly a century later, nothing has changed, and that was what Fernandez was banking on. Their 275-hectare estate sits at over 800 meters elevation, the highest point in the entire Jumilla appellation, on ancient sandy soils with a high percentage of chalk. Because of those sandy soils, 99% of Europe’s vineyards require grafting onto American rootstock to survive phylloxera. But Olivares’ vines grow on their original, ungrafted rootstock. So they were spared of any disease. Even better, the oldest vines here date all the way back to 1872!!!
