By now you’re all well aware of our new superstar winemaking connect, Bibi Graetz who first burst onto the scene in 2000. But it wasn’t until last year that we managed to secure some of his delicious, high-scoring Tuscans blends.
An artist by birth, he soon realized that the land he owned was on prime real estate– around his house grew some of the most mature Sangiovese vineyards (he calls them gardens) in the country – a few parcels a staggering 85 years old now. With contracts about to expire, Bibi had to decide whether to renew or take them over. Luckily, he chose the latter. Then he made an even better decision when he brought in (now rockstar) winemaker – Antinori Antonini.
The two set out to create the very best expression of the vineyards they possibly could. The bottling would be called Testamatta and would be 100% garden Sangiovese – which was not allowed by the powers that be. But Bibi doesn’t care about the rules, so he continues doing what he does best.
His 2019 Cassamatta Rosato is another 100% Sangiovese ala many of the reds. It’s a refreshing, delicate Rosato that boats vibrant notes of cherries and wild strawberries with a honeysuckle finish. This is a well-balanced and wonderfully enjoyable price. Since these are the last of Bibi’s cases from the 2019 vintage, we were given an exceptional price as a thank you. Offered by the case only — 20 cases of these left in the world.

The just released 2023 Crochet Sancerre Rosé is drawn from the high elevations of Janine and Teddy Crochet’s Pinot Noir vines in the village of Bué. The conditions are perfect for crisp, delicious Sancerre Rosé. Salmon-pink in color with a pretty nose featuring aromas of roses, orange peel and Bing cherry notes. This is as well-balanced as always with terrific fruit flavors of citrus and red berries with racy a high-toned finish.

“Tobacco, truffle, violet and hints of mocha and cherry pie unfold on this beautiful Brunello. Classically crafted and elegantly structured, it delivers flavors of ripe Morello cherry, wild raspberry, baking spice and licorice alongside enveloping, refined tannins. Fresh acidity keeps it nicely balanced. Drink 2028–2039. -Kerin O’Keefe
97 Points, James Suckling
“Aromas of bark, dark cherries and flowers, too. It’s medium- to full-bodied with purity of fruit that runs the length of the wine. It goes on for minutes. Very fine tannins. From organically grown grapes. Needs three or four years to completely come together, but gorgeous. Drink after 2026.” -James Suckling
Fresh off a huge feature in The Wall Street Journal in which they were crowned as the top Prosecco Rose in a lineup of 14, I suspect what was once our little secret will explode. James Suckling also finally got around to tasting it and gave it 91 points. I’d rate it even higher. The 2021 Bisol Jeio Brut Prosecco Rosé is remarkable, and simply put, mouth-wateringly delicious. Inviting aromas of flowers and wild strawberries, with a complex mouthfeel that sings with citrus fruits and creaminess from the tiny crisp bubbles.
