Barrell Craft Spirits may be one of the ‘newcomers’ on the Kentucky Bourbon scene, but in a short time, they’ve already become one of the most decorated.

This particular blend was a Private Selection bottled at 116.42 proof and delivers waves of serious complexity. I tasted a sample a few days ago and quickly jumped all in on this exclusive opportunity. The nose hits you with fresh buttermilk pancakes and maple syrup, plus some pine needles, ginger, and orange zest. On the palate, you get caramel corn and syrup right up front, then brown butter and apricot, finishing with butterscotch and gingerbread notes. Just one or two drops of water, and you’re really off to the races here.

I love the way they put the age statement right on the front label of the bottle. Show us the goods! This baby is a mix of four different age statements: 40% is 5-year Bourbon, 30% is 7-year, 20% is 10-year and the granddaddy of them all, 10% of this blend is actually made from 17-year old juice. This is one impressive and very limited bottling! This one is an absolute beauty.
