The Rizzottos organically farm old vines of Garganega and Trebbiano in the rolling hills of Soave, creating high-toned, delicious white wines. Balestri Valda Soave 2019 is a crisp Italian white that is truly the perfect companion to most anything seafood, Jersey tomatoes and sweet corn. My bet is that if you are drinking Pinot Grigio you need to give Balestri Valda a try. There are no small lot, old-vine Pinot Grigios that exist for anywhere near this price. This is a brand new release.
There is no Pinot Grigio in the world that is farmed organically, sourced from old vines on mineral soil and made in tiny quantities and only costs $14.40 a bottle on cases. I don’t understand the business plan yet, but I’ll take it. Crazy good, crazy cheap, stock up!

The Carneros Reserve bottling cherry picks the family’s favorite lots to blend into a harmonious explosion – nearing a sensory overload. The nose is like sticking your face in a freshly baked peach/apple cobbler pie. Equally assertive flavors of melon, apples, and pears swim around the palate. Everything you expect from a classic Cakebread.
The 2016 vintage in Napa was nearly perfect for winemaker Kian Tavakoli (Opus One, Clos du Val). With ideal weather all throughout harvest, he crafted the Faustini Money Road Chardonnay off the famous vineyard located in the coveted Oakville AVA. The picturesque vineyard off Oakville Crossroad is platinum rated, known for its ideal combination of soil & climate and the big A list names that routinely source fruit. Kian’s Money Road Chard is still youthful despite having a few years of age, probably as a result of its 18 months of slumber in 1/4 new Oak.

The 2005 Yquem starts out incredibly welcoming with seductive aromas. The mouthfeel offers perfect balance with fresh acidity and elegance complimenting the wine’s power and giving it tremendous grace. It’s crazy good right now, but I think I will defer to Lisa Perotti-Brown, who said in her 97-pt review of this classic wine just last year, “This decadent flavor bomb still needs a good five to seven years in bottle before it is set to go off, but oh what a spectacle it will give then!” From what it’s already showing, this can be one special bottle for Sauternes collectors.
Les Noisetiers surrounds the Kistler winery on the Sonoma Coast. The 2018 has a classic balance of layered, juicy fruit and mineral backbone. It is delicious wine, with white flowers and stone fruit aromatics leading to a full bodied, juicy core, loaded with flavors of peach, apricots, pineapple and pear. The finish goes a mile long.
