Agricola Punica Barrua Isola dei Nuraghi IGT 2021

*Not Yet Rated*

This is not a wine to be taken lightly. When you have Sassicaia’s team, Italy’s greatest wine consultant, and pristine Sardinian terroir coming together, the results speak for themselves. The project consistently earns huge scores year after year, validating Tachis’s original vision that Sardinia could produce world-class wines.

It’s a sophisticated wine, that much I can tell you. It’s a deep ruby Carignano-dominated blend showcasing everything that made Giacomo Tachis champion Sardinian terroir decades ago. The nose delivers intense dark fruit concentration – blackberry, cassis, and plum – layered with Mediterranean herbs, wild scrubland, and that distinctive mineral backbone from ancient limestone soils

In 2002, legendary wine consultant Giacomo Tachis, the man who helped create all three of Tuscany’s greatest bottlings (Solaia, Sassicaia, and Tignanello), convinced his friends at Tenuta San Guido that he had found something in Sardinia they had to see immediately.

Together, Tenuta San Guido, Giacomo Tachis, and Sardinian winery Cantina Sociale di Santadi started a project that would become Sardinia’s ultimate crown jewel. Nearly 25 years later, this wine – the Barrua – sits at the center of the Sardinian wine revolution, arguably responsible for putting the entire island on the map in the wine world!

Tachis had already revolutionized Italian wine with Sassicaia when he became convinced that Sardinia’s local Carignano di Sulcis was the greatest Carignano outside of Priorat. He convinced the Tuscan giant that Sardinia had something truly special worth their attention, and this partnership became the foundation for what many consider the “Sassicaia of Sardinia” or “The Sardinian Super”.
