Francesco Porcarelli’s story is a heartfelt tale of generational connection and dedication to the land. For the past five decades, his family’s bond with the Braccano estate has become inseparable, evolving from managing rental retreats to cultivating vineyards with focus on quality and sustainability. In 2007, Francesco and his wife Stefania made a pivotal shift from selling grapes to the local co-op to replanting with Verdicchio clones and embracing organic farming entirely.
Colpaola sits at the highest point of the Matelica appellation, with vineyards climbing up to 750 meters in calcareous soils. The east-facing rows benefit from dramatic diurnal temperature shifts, resulting in slow, balanced maturation.
The Matelica valley’s unique climate—protected from the sea by its parallel orientation to the Adriatic and influenced by high altitude and cold winds from the Apennines—creates ideal conditions for this exceptional expression of terroir.
