Colpaola Verdicchio di Matelica 2024

Since their first bottling in 2013, the Porcarelli family has crafted a distinctive wine that embodies their unique high-altitude, organic vineyard environment. The kind of Verdicchio that earns a spot on Danny Meyer’s wine list and recognition as one of Italy’s most rewarded whites.

This is a Verdicchio that bursts out the bottle with energy. This one shows off why Verdicchio is the true ‘King of Italian Whites’. I’m talking about that incredible tension in the bottle that comes from gorgeous natural acidity at high elevation, the mineral streak thats created from the sacred calcareous clay-rich soils, and the saltiness from the nearby Adriatic that just begs for this to be enjoyed with some seafood.

Original price was: $30.00.Current price is: $22.00.

Francesco Porcarelli’s story is a heartfelt tale of generational connection and dedication to the land. For the past five decades, his family’s bond with the Braccano estate has become inseparable, evolving from managing rental retreats to cultivating vineyards with focus on quality and sustainability. In 2007, Francesco and his wife Stefania made a pivotal shift from selling grapes to the local co-op to replanting with Verdicchio clones and embracing organic farming entirely.

Colpaola sits at the highest point of the Matelica appellation, with vineyards climbing up to 750 meters in calcareous soils. The east-facing rows benefit from dramatic diurnal temperature shifts, resulting in slow, balanced maturation.

The Matelica valley’s unique climate—protected from the sea by its parallel orientation to the Adriatic and influenced by high altitude and cold winds from the Apennines—creates ideal conditions for this exceptional expression of terroir.
