The 2022 Bolgheri Rosso Felciano is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc that spent 12 months in French oak. Ripe and succulent, the 2022 is all charm right out of the gate. Silky contours and plush fruit open first, followed by hints of clove, pomegranate, rose petal and mocha. All the elements are deftly balanced throughout. What a joyous wine this is.
Chiappini has crafted devastatingly excellent Super Tuscan wines for decades. They’ve just largely gone unnoticed due to the neighborhood. The original Sassicaia is across the road and the current neighbor, Ornellaia garners much of the attention. But make no mistake – the land that they share is prime Bolgheri real-estate that is responsible for some of the most age-worthy, beautifully structured, Sangiovese/Cabernet Sauvignon/Merlot mixes that you could hope to find.
Giovanni’s Chiappini is a single-vineyard, high-flying Super Tuscan that one can actually afford, unlike its more expensive neighbors.
