From the first time I visited with Romain Reverdy in Verdigny, I’ve been blown away by this young star who is undoubtedly one of the most promising young vignerons of the appellation. His 2022’s have just come in and they’re completely lights out. It’s incredible how he shows off the rich fruit intensity and power of 2022 with bursting stone fruits that come in waves and show the complexity of the vintage as well.
The vineyards there are mostly rooted in “Caillotes” (small limestone pebbles and rocks with compacted chalky marl) and “Terres Blanches” (Kimmeridgian marl) and with a very small amount of silex (flint).
The whites are precise with a certain softness, but with very tight structure that, stylistically—of recent—are reminiscent of the great Sancerre of the 80’s. But the Rose has been a really special surprise. It’s ageworthy, it’s complex and it’s food friendly. And it really shines through with its pure red berry and citrus fruit

“The 50% Moscato Bianco, 50% Brachetto is one of the most distinctive sweet wines in all of Italy. Exotic floral and spice accents soar out of the glass. Rose petal, mint, sage, dried herbs and hard candy play off bright acids and an overall feeling of crystalline energy.” -Antonio Galloni

This is a Nicholas Faithful favorite. Even though it’s technically a non-vintage it was last disgorged in the 2020 vintage. La Cravantine, is a sparkling rosé of 100% Cabernet Franc, bone-dry, super fresh and with bubbles so tiny and fine, it puts most “real” Champagne to shame. Appealing strawberry and mineral scents are encased in a firm structure with a dry and spicy quality in the palate. This wine is incredibly versatile – perfect with just about any fish, fried food, or do like I do and enjoy it on it’s own.

Balade is the French word for wandering. It’s perfect since of all the Belle Glos single-vineyard selections this one was the hardest to find. It comes from the western part of Santa Rita Hills and is usually reserved entirely for restaurants. It’s an absolute beauty – roaring out of the gates with primary red and black berry fruits along with underlying freshness, and some toasted oak notes that sneak in towards the end.
The secret to Philippe’s tightly wound, complex Pinot Noir is a combo of ancient vines, natural farming techniques, and low yields. The wines are built to age, with incredible tension and length. And the secret to me securing his other-wordly 2017 old-vine Gevry-Chambertin can be chalked up to a great relationship and over a decade supporting superior Burgundian winemaking. The wine is scary good. The nose is wild, filled with spiced dark raspberries, red flowers, and baking spices. The palate is elegant and racy, with a dynamic tension that runs right through its minute-long finish. This is a high-toned, wound-up Pinot, that is starting to hit its prime and is really turning out to be a ‘must-have’ for true Burgundy lovers.
