The Mascot is a blend of Harlan, Bond and Promontory barrels, 100% pure Cabernet Sauvignon from some of the most spectacular vineyards in the Napa Valley. Is it expensive? Hell, yes, at $150, it’s a Saturday nighter for sure. But when you consider Harlan Estate goes for about $1000 a bottle and Bond and Promontory come in around $500, the Mascot almost looks like a Tuesday nighter. Almost…
The Mascot is always a late release, Will wants to make sure it’s drinking well when you share it with your friends. The 2016 vintage in Napa Valley looks to be another all-time classic and most of the best Cabs are long gone from the market. Pick this absolute stunner to share with friends at any summer feast….

Winemaker Will Harlan (yeah, that Harlan family) makes an absolute must-have Saturday night stunner in what was an absolutely epic 2014 vintage.

In the 2020 vintage in Gevrey-Chambertin, yields were super low and temperatures were hotter than most Burgundian winemakers are accustomed. Many picked too late when the sugars were high and the fruit really ripe, but that was not the play. Still, Ann remained as cool in those hot temps as she did so many years ago in Napa, concentrating more on acid levels than sugars and picking at just the right time. This wine is absolutely singing – it’s an age-worthy beauty that should be even better in 4-7 years.
#3 Wine Spectator Top 100 Wines of 2021
96 Points, Parker’s Wine Advocate – 95 Points, Wine Spectator
We are one of the very few folks who have Wine Spectator’s #3 Wine of the Year. This is definitely not one to miss. The 2016 vintage showcases this prized vineyard in all its glory; notes of wild black fruit, thyme, mint, eucalyptus, and bay are lifted and enjoyed with the polished tannin and mouthwatering freshness of this wine. Regarded as one of the best vintages in the last few decades, the 2016 Martha’s Vineyard has been aged to perfection for immediate enjoyment at release and will continue to reward for the next 20+ years.
Winemaker Kian Tavakoli (Opus One, Clos du Val) continues to excel even while others struggle. In 2017, he still managed to deliver a beautiful and opulent Napa Valley Cabernet that’s both dark and juicy. The wine hails from both Coombsville and Rutherford, giving it distinct characteristics and a lot of drive. Deep ruby to the rim with excellent concentration, notes of Bing cherries, raspberry pie and hints of vanilla. On the palate, big wonderfully jammy fruit with young but impressive tannins and great length. The finish leaves notes of black cherry, and baked blueberry pie. Fantastic Napa value.
