A Nicholas Winery Spotlight
Dunites Wine Co.
"Readers who have not yet tasted these wines owe it to themselves to do so."
-Antonio Galloni
The Wine
The 2023 vintage will be remembered as one of the latest and coolest on the Central Coast. The vines thrived with healthy canopies that allowed the grapes to ripen well into the fall. Such late harvests often encourage a slow, gradual development of flavors while preserving high acidity. The wines from the 2023 vintage are concentrated, full of flavor, and beautifully fresh with crisp acidity.
These three Dunites gems are balanced and poised to age gracefully for years to come. 2023 marks the very first vintage that we get a wine from the Hi Kite vineyard, the Ecks first estate-farmed wine. It’s a great site, just 2 miles from the Pacific, yielding fresh, low ph Syrah and Grenache. The 2023 Syrah-Grenache just crackles with tension. So does the 95-point Single-Vineyard Bassi Vineyard, a wine that Galloni called, “an archetype of the SLO Coast” and of course so does the 97-point ODE. Galloni finished that review by saying simply “What a wine!”
