Wente Cabernet Sauvignon Wetmore Vineyard 2021

94 Points, Wine Enthusiast – 93 Points, Tasting Panel

When I opened a bottle, I was hit with classic Cab aromas – red currants, cassis – but there’s more. I get several layers of blue and black fruits with some plum, sweet oak and cherry pie. It’s a vibrant, youthful wine that is as approachable and likable as they come.

Unsurprisingly, the critic darlings struck another high note with their 2021 bottling, earning a rave 94-point review from Wine Enthusiast and a 93 from the Tasting Panel. Enthusiast called this one “ rich and concentrated” and highlighted “dark cherry, plum, vanilla, violet, and dried bay leaf”  aromas in their tasting note.

Where a good offer becomes a great one is when you can get your hands on a juicy, 94/93-point, well-built California Cab Sauv for anywhere under $30/bottle, which is right where we check in today.

Original price was: $35.00.Current price is: $27.00.

94 Points, Wine Enthusiast
This wine is rich, concentrated with aromas of dark cherry, plum, vanilla, violet, and dried bay leaf on the nose. The flavors on the palate are blackberry, boysenberry, baked nectarine and allspice, sliding into mocha and espresso with leathery tannins. Hold or decant. Drink until 2035.

93 Points, Tasting Panel
Conveying the essence of Livermore Valley terroir, this opulent red is luscious from the start, with coffee and plum-skin tannins forming its backbone. Notes of black cherry and dark chocolate are memorable, as is the suede mouthfeel.

Wente Vineyards isn’t just another winery. The place is a straight-up institution. Founded in 1883, it’s the country’s longest continuously family-owned and operated winery. We’re talking five generations of unparalleled winemaking passion.

The Wente’s take the term pioneering to a new level. Back in 1912, Ernest Wente, the founder’s son, had a hunch. He imported Chardonnay cuttings from France and started tinkering. The result? The ‘Wente Clone’ – a game-changer that now forms the basis of over 75% of all California Chardonnay. Talk about leaving a legacy!

Fast forward to today, and that same innovative spirit is on full display with their Wetmore Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon. It’s a masterclass in what happens when you combine over a century of winemaking knowledge with prime California terroir for growing age-worthy Cabernet.
