From two of the very the best winemakers in the world, legends Philippe Melka and Michel Rolland in addition to superstar Matt Sands (Screaming Eagle, Bryant Family) comes easily the best Cabernet deal of the year. I’ve managed to pry away 15 cases of this super rare Cabernet Sauvignon from one of the best vineyards in Napa and my price is too good to print. $149 on release from the winery with a huge and deserving score to boot. $125 the lowest price anywhere online. Today’s price is a rare treat.
Sourced from blocks 7 and Summit, and expertly farmed by Phil Coturri (Harlan, Mayacamas, Landmark, Moon Mountain), comes a big but very smooth and inviting Cabernet Sauvignon with black cherry fruit, blueberries and creme de cassis notes. It’s a flawless wine, which is probably how it recently picked up a soon-to-be published 95-point Cellar Selection from Wine Enthusiast.

Once again dialing up fruit from 1000-1500ft in elevation in the Dundee Hills, Chad’s 2021 is juicy, laser focused and roaring out of the gates. Chad tells me that similar wines (very similar wines) off this vineyard are raising their prices up to $55/bottle from $45 this year due to 2020’s lost year. But where most people are raising prices to recoup last year’s losses, the CHAD Pinot Noir price is somehow lower. A true gift from our favorite winemaker.
94 Points, Jeb Dunnuck
This is a historic estate that is one of the best and oldest in the region and arguably the first to bottle their own estate CDP. Their newly released 2020 Chateauneuf du Pape is a total gem – a seamless blend of mainly Grenache, Mourvedre and Syrah with a little Cinsault blended in. Wine Spectator called the wine, “silky” and elegant and Jeb Dunnuck took it up a step further when he declared the wine, “a big winner, with the vintage’s purity and elegance front and center” in his rave 94-point review.
The next great Big Red in the long line from the Wagner family of Caymus fame. Like the previous Quilt offerings, this represents Joe Wagner’s pick of the litter of available vineyard sources that puts his inimitable blending abilities into play. In a vintage as easy and as heralded as 2021, the only difficulty the Wagners had was finding things they didn’t like. So explosive and juicy on the palate with a lush mouthfeel and silky smooth tannins. A winner for Napa and Big Red fans alike.
96 Points, Parker’s Wine Advocate – 96 Points, Vinous – 96 Points,
“The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon is sublime. Bright and savory, with tons of energy, the 2019 captures all the personality of this tiny vineyard on Diamond Mountain. Dried rose petal, lavender, red plum, graphite and crushed rocks add layers of nuance to this mid-weight, classically built Cabernet from Dyer. In a word; superb.”
