The Mascot Cabernet Sauvignon 2020

In the world of ultra-premium Napa Valley Cabernet, certain names transcend the challenges of a specific growing season. The Mascot is a prime example. Created by Will Harlan, it is sourced from the younger vines of the family’s three legendary estates: Harlan Estate, BOND, and Promontory.

When dealing with fruit of this pedigree, there is truly no such thing as a “bad vintage.” Because these sites are located on the most privileged hillsides of the Mayacamas Range, they possess a natural resilience. Furthermore, the never-ending level of resources available to the family from uncompromising sorting to precision viticulture, plus the expertise of winemakers like Bob Levy and Cory Empting, it means that the quality floor with the Mascot is much higher than most wineries’ ceilings.

Winemaker Will Harlan (yeah, that Harlan family) makes an absolute must-have Saturday night stunner in what was an absolutely epic 2014 vintage.

The Mascot is a blend of Harlan, Bond and Promontory barrels, 100% pure Cabernet Sauvignon from some of the most spectacular vineyards in the Napa Valley. Is it expensive? Hell, yes, at $165, it’s a Saturday nighter for sure. But when you consider Harlan Estate goes for about $1100 a bottle and Bond and Promontory come in around $700, and both of them received perfect 100-point scores the previous vintage from multiple reviewers, then the Mascot almost looks like a Tuesday nighter. Almost…
