Tenuta Antonini Hydria Pecorino d’Abruzzo 2024

91 Points, James Suckling

This is one of those Italian white wines that not enough people know about. I can’t decide if I like it better that way or not. It is a completely dazzling 91-point Pecorino from Abruzzo that is so crisp, vibrant, food-friendly and gorgeous. I’m telling you, this one is going to convert a lot of folks. It delivers everything you could want on a table full of turkey, stuffing, roasted vegetables, and everything else that comes with it. It doesn’t compete with what’s on the plate – it elevates it!

“Salted almonds, crushed stones, white flowers, and chopped pears on the nose. It’s creamy and medium to full-bodied with a nice mineral freshness and a saline, bright finish. Drink now.”

Pecorino is one of Italy’s most exciting indigenous white grapes, and Abruzzo is where it truly thrives. Tenuta Antonini is a family estate now in its fourth generation, working in the hills of Ancarano in the Teramo province for over a century.

Their gorgeous vineyards sit in one of Abruzzo’s most naturally blessed spots, benefitting from Adriatic Sea breezes from the east, cool mountain air from Gran Sasso from the west, and dramatic diurnal temperature swings that concentrate aromatics in every cluster while keeping acidity bright and alive.
