Te Mata Vineyards Estate Sauvignon Blanc 2025

94 Points, Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate –  93 Points, James Suckling

“The 2025 Estate Vineyards Sauvignon Blanc leads with notes of cassis, white currant and passion fruit, alongside hints of white pineapple and yellow guava. A highly detailed approach to viticulture at Te Mata enables smaller, more selective harvest picks, contributing to the precision and detail evident in the finished wine. The palate here is soft and textural yet also restrained and persistent, with impressive length and a distinctly mouthwatering acidity. Fermentation was retained in tank, while different yeast strains were employed across individual vineyard blocks to enhance complexity and site expression. This is very good.” -The Wine Advocate

Aromas of melon, pears and lotus flowers follow through to a medium body with crunchy fruit and a crisp and delicious finish. Lots of Meyer lemon character at the end. Bone dry. Bring on the oysters.

Te Mata is one of my absolute favorite wineries from New Zealand and they continue to improve each vintage. They’re probably best known for their Sauvignon Blanc and for their Coleraine Cabernet blend (which Parker’s Wine Advocate says, “any self-respecting Cabernetphile is”), but really you can’t go wrong with anything. These guys are the top dogs that everyone is chasing.

Here’s just a little taste of what some of the wine press has said about Te Mata and some of the huge things they are doing in NZ.

  • “New Zealand’s greatest winery.” -Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate
  • “A national treasure.” -Jancis Robinson
  • “New Zealand’s first growth.” -Decanter
