Tasca D’Almerita Regaleali Lamuri Nero d’Avola 2022

91 Points (Best Buy), Wine Enthusiast – 90 Points, Vinous

Three-time Italian Winemaker of the Year, Carlo Ferrini, is at the helm at the Tasca Family’s Tenuta Regaleali where he does wonders with indigenous varietals. His 2022 Lamuri Nero D’Avola is an absolutely electric Reserve bottling that showcases some of the very best Nero d’Avola that Sicily has to offer. It’s a bright, vibrant and versatile Nero that works amazingly with poultry, pizza, salads, nuts, and any kind of red meat you want to throw at it.  Think a slightly fruitier, chalkier version of Chianti Classico coming from Sicily’s unique climate. This is one of those where you’re going to be thankful you got a few of to have around the house.

The nose opens earthy and umami, with damp soil, pepper and herbs, then unveils the floral delicacy of mandarin blossoms and wild cherries. Raspberries and more cherries lead off the palate, followed by snappier notes of bergamot and wild fennel and finally a salty chalkiness. Simultaneously taut with tannins and alive with acid.

90 Points, Vinous
The 2022 Nero d’Avola Lamuri wafts up with a refined blend of woodland berry, sage and crushed stone. Cool-toned in feel, it offers silken textures and ripe red and black fruits elevated by a core of vibrant acidity. A twang of sour citrus punctuates the finish as the wine tapers off with admirable length and a nuance of blackberry.

The Tasca family has been an integral part of the Sicilian wine scene for generations and is considered by many to be one of its biggest champions. They were the very first producer to market their wines with ‘Sicily’ proudly stated on the label at a time when winemakers thought that ‘Italian table wine’ would be better received.

But the Tasca family had a really good feeling about the special soil that lay beneath their vines. So even when others told them there was nothing to their vision, they forged ahead and overcame every obstacle that got in their way.

The Tascas have owned the Regaleali Estate since 1837. The gorgeous, sprawling estate had become like a giant sandbox for the family to experiment with ancient vines and indigenous varietals under the watchful eye of superstar winemaker Ezio Rivella who made wine until 2023 when he unfortunately passed away.
