Sylvain Bailly Sancerre Chene Marchand 2024

This is a special, special wine from one of Sancerre’s true Grand Cru vineyards. What’s more crazy is that most of the single-vineyard bottlings from here start at $50 and go north in a hurry. Not today. Not for us. This is a gorgeous and sophisticated bottling with vibrancy, tension and depth. Energetic flavors of green apple and quince with a stony mineral finish compliments of the Sancerre holy grail of soils, ‘caillotes’ and clay. This isn’t your fruity and fun entry-level Sauvignon Blanc. It’s a chalk-dusted stone fruits, lemon-lime citrus zest, white flower petals, and a screaming streak of minerality that totally steals the show.

Original price was: $50.00.Current price is: $39.99.

We first discovered Sylvain Bailly’s Sancerre during the pandemic when their exclusive partnership with Keith McNally’s Balthazar was temporarily paused. Years later, that connection has blossomed into something special – including first access to their most prized releases.

The Bailly family’s tiny winery in the heart of Sancerre is a model of excellence. From their Quincy holdings to their single-vineyard Sancerre, the quality is consistently outstanding – exactly what you’d expect from a producer featured at one of the world’s busiest restaurants.

Sitting in the heart of Bué on a south-facing slope, Chene Marchand represents Sancerre’s holy grail – a perfect combination of caillotes and clay soils that delivers sophistication, depth and mineral cut that few others could possibly match. The farming here is meticulous – densely planted vines, hand-harvested fruit, and temperature-controlled fermentation followed by extended lees aging. The result is an unbeatable combination of power and elegance
