St. Francis Sauvignon Blanc Sonoma County 2021

Categories ,

The Alexander Valley was more of a backwater back in the early 1970s when Joe Martin decided to quit his day job of supplying grapes to some of the biggest names in Napa in order to start his own 100-acre orchard in the Valley.

At the time, it seemed like an enormous gamble until Robert Parker, Jr. fell in love with the wines of Alexander Valley and more specifically, St. Francis, raining down successive 92 to 96 point scores – scores rarely seen outside of Napa at the time.

Combine that with Joe Martin’s hospitality focus (St. Francis is a must-visit) and all the sudden, Joe’s vision came to fruition in the form of wine tasting mecca. It’s truly a world-class winery destination that is consistently ranked near the top of annual lists and twice recognized by OpenTable reviewers as the ‘Best food and wine pairing in the world’.

One of those wines that are heavenly to pair with is their signature Sonoma County Sauvignon Blanc. It’s a bright, entry-level expression that can be had at a great price, but it delivers far beyond its modest price tag. It’s got everything you’re looking for. Beautiful melon and tropical notes on the nose with a green apple core that’s backed by crisp acidity and a stone-fruit mineral component.

Original price was: $20.00.Current price is: $17.50.

The winemaker from St. Francis was actually at Barrel & Roost last week and I got to taste through her entire lineup. Rock solid all the way through.  I assumed like everybody else in California these guys sold their Sauvignon Blanc for $30/bottle or more, but when I found out the price tag, I told her we had to offer this up to our email list. It was so bright and delicious and for under $20/bottle. This one has all the aromatics and tropical flavors of guava, peach and nectarine that will absolutely make your mouth water.
