Always like when we can bring a ‘first’ to the table and this Hungarian Red certainly fits the bill. It’s a delicate and complex volcanic wine that has a lot of rich notes of blackberries, chocolate and blue petaled flowers with a hint of pepper. This is an age-worthy beauty. Definitely worth a try as something that you’ll almost never be able to find again but will delight the true wine geek.
St. Andrea ‘Merengo’ Egri Bikaver Grand Superior 2016

St. Andrea is one of the great producers of the under-appreciated wine region of Hungary. It’s a family winery with roots that date back to 1999.
They make wine in the Eger region of Hungary – a cool-climate region that has wines with a lot of exciting acidity and roaring aromatics. Here everything takes a little while to ripen but the wines have such fierce precision and complexity once they do.
